What could be more glamorous than Paris Fashion Week? The 2009 show, it seems, has been as fabulous as ever. The familiar names of Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier dazzled audiences with their trend setting designs, giving us an insight into what’s hot this season.

Or not. Personally I’m never quite sure where the artistic license ends and the fashion begins. I mean, are lederhosen really “in”? Should I be heading to the high street/ reaching for my mouse and purchasing a pair? There’s always the danger that you’ll take the catwalk too literally and end up as fashion’s laughing stock. It’s all a little intimidating.

What was reassuring to see, in amongst the glitz and glamour, was that the accessories of choice, for models and the celebrity audience alike, were diamonds; beautiful diamond rings, necklaces and brooches. Diamonds never go out of fashion. Engagement ring designs can be as bold and flamboyant in design as the fashionistas please, or understated, classical and romantic. One thing I do know, a diamond ring will never be a fashion faux pas.

Agreed, engagement ring designs must suit the tastes, personality and lifestyle of the lucky wearers. That fabulous ring with the huge, impressive diamond delicately perched on top may be utterly awe inspiring but is probably not that suitable for the woman who rock climbs for a hobby.
